January is Refocus Month: Time to Reflect, Reestablish, Succeed

January is more than the start of a new semester for students and educators—it’s a time for renewal! When students return, they bring fresh energy and focus for the second semester.

I recently asked students from the campuses I’ve worked with about their 2025 academic resolutions. Their answers weren’t about New Year’s resolutions; instead, they focused on Reflecting and Reestablishing.

Here’s what students shared about their mindset for the new semester:

  1. They reflect on their previous semester’s successes and challenges.
  2. They set new academic goals for the semester.
  3. They reestablish study routines to improve their performance.

However, many students struggle to sustain their vision of success. I have used the Course Framing technique to help students start courses off well. It’s a powerful tool that helps students excel in any course. I often introduce this technique as a foundational step leading into the broader Decoding Course Outcomes strategy.

Curious how Course Framing works? Watch the quick video below to see how it can transform learning.

Ready to equip your students with tools for lasting success? Great!
