When students study correctly, their critical thinking skills are engaged throughout the process. Few students interact with their academic environment in ways that develop and hone essential thinking competencies. Research suggests that students who correctly use a broad set of mental tools achieve comprehensive and enduring academic success. Our work with dozens of institutions affirms the research. We’ve found that many students possess the skills to produce high-quality work; however, they are unaware of their cognitive strengths. Consequently, they don’t know when and how to use them in academic settings.

This live webinar details proven methods to activate, develop and refine students’ critical thinking skills. The event blends research, visual imagery, and real academic assignments to immerse participants in authentic learning situations. Participants gain field-tested best practices that have generated measurable success among students at two-and-four-year colleges across the U.S. and Canada.

Participants will be able to:

• identify core thinking skills in daily activities and transfer those skills to academic environments and tasks;
• interpret the various thinking skills embedded in courses, tests, and tasks;
• develop specific mental dispositions and competencies that are desired in scholarship, professional careers, and citizenship;
• set explicit metacognitive thinking goals;
• and institute Metacognitive Action Plans (MAPS) to activate thinking skills applicative to study goals.
